NUHA Foundation 2019 Blogging Prizes – Up to $2400 First Prize
Welcome to the 2018 edition of NUHA’s annual writing competition!
Whether you are from Ghana or Georgia, Greece, Guam or Guyana, we want to hear what YOU have to say about ‘education’. Absolutely anyone can participate to win the NUHA Foundation 2019 Blogging Prizes, and three prizes are on offer, together with Matched Prizes for teachers and schools.
It doesn’t matter whether English is your first, second or even third language: articles will be judged first and foremost on the quality of argument and the originality of ideas.

Young Writers – write an essay or a short story of 300 to 800 words on one of these photos.
Youth Writers – To participate, write an essay of 500 to 1200 words on one of these topics:
- Is education a right or a privilege?
- “While technology is important, it’s what we do with it that truly matters.” – Muhammad Yunus. Discuss.
- “If you are lonely when you’re alone, you are in bad company.” – Jean-Paul Sartre. Discuss.
- Discuss the photo.
Adult Writers – write an article of 600 to 1500 words on one of the topics below:
- “Most people don’t listen with the intent to understand; they listen with the intent to reply.” – Stephen R. Covey. Do you agree?
- “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” – Martin Luther King Jr. Discuss.
- “He who opens a school door, closes a prison.” – Victor Hugo. Discuss.
- Discuss the following excerpt from Warsan Shire’s poem Home:
“you have to understand,
that no one puts their children in a boat
unless the water is safer than the land”
Young Writers – The winner will get up to $250. There’s a 2nd Prize of up to $100 and a 3rd Prize of up to $50.
Youth Writers – The winner will get up to $900. There’s a 2nd Prize of up to $400 and a 3rd Prize of up to $150.
Adult Writers – The winner gets up to $2400, with a 2nd Prize of up to $1200 and a 3rd Prize of up to $400.

Submitting your article
The Editorial team will read every article they receive, which may then be published on the NUHA blog until Saturday 3 November. Enjoy exploring this year’s blogging entries.
What happens next?
Tell your family and friends to vote for your article by liking it on Facebook directly from the NUHA website and by commenting on it. The voting closes at midnight PST on Saturday 17 November.
On 22 November, the Editor will announce the articles that have been shortlisted in the NUHA Foundation 2019 Blogging Prizes competition: these will be the articles that received the most votes, the articles that were most debated and the articles that may not have got much public attention but that deserve to be shortlisted for their intrinsic quality.
The Editor will also introduce the Jury for this year’s writing competition. The Jury will focus on the quality of your arguments and the originality of your ideas.
On 10 December, the Editor will announce the Winner, Runner-Up Prizes and Matched Prizes!
